Executive Coaching
You’re probably very capable in your work and know your subject intimately, but suddenly you’re tipped into insecurities and doubt when faced with new challenges. A senior executive recently came to me as he felt he had more potential yet couldn’t find a fifth gear: "there are unknown unknowns", a phrase coined by a former US Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld. Executive coaching uncovers the unknowns and enables clients to shift the gear. This client sent me a WhatsApp saying ‘I’ve closed 3 new clients, 7 new jobs and am now stupidly busy at work’. His boss said ‘he’s certainly got his mojo back since working with you’.
‘Unlocking potential is key’ says Jason Parrott, Co-Director of The Collective Network, Peterborough: ‘From my personal experience, the real value I took away from our time together was helping me to really understand my intrinsic motivators which was key for me; there are various examples I could share, but things like our Maslow work and increasing my self-awareness have been real game changers that I use on a daily basis’.
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
It’s quite normal to feel unsure of yourself when embarking on a new coaching journey, In fact, research demonstrates that 49% of men and 51% of women have, at some time during the last year, experienced self-critical thoughts, not feeling good enough, over- thinking and doubting themselves.
These are all symptoms of Imposter Syndrome which lead to the nervous system reacting to perceived thoughts, triggering the fight/flight/freeze paradigm, resulting in poor sleep, tension, anxiety and overwhelm. We then develop a bridge of coping strategies. Our behaviours lead to perfectionism, over preparation, comparing ourselves to others and procrastination. We hide our opinions, avoiding roles and opportunities, pushing on through with gritted teeth.
In our time together, we’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, why it happens in the body and how you can think, feel and behave differently by re-training your neurobiology. It’s all down to our thoughts, the subsequent reaction from the nervous system and our resulting behaviours. And this cycle of symptoms has a root cause. The Unconscious Mind. We’ll discuss what happens when you start to feel anxious, tense or stressed and I’ll give you the tools to overcome perceived fears and unwanted behaviours.
I encourage and invite you to bring your thoughts, energy and challenges to our sessions. We’ll work together to overcome these barriers.
